Artist Statement

My work is heavily concentrated on painting and drawing. I work on large surfaces to add details and intermix dry media to use their different textures. The dry media include graphite, charcoal, pastel, and colored pencil. My painting style was inspired by a Cuban artist who used multitudes of colors in his works. Another inspiration was Vincent van Gogh when I did a study of one of his paintings. This study helped me with my style of adding layers and creating textures with the paint. My paintings are mostly acrylic on stretched canvas varying in size. The style of how I paint mixes the abstractedness big brushes produce as well as the smallest details from tiny brushes. Other media that I enjoy working with are watercolor, pen and ink, and oil pastel.

Art is therapeutic for me. not only is it a way for me to express myself, but it is therapeutic through the process of creating art. Art is also a way to challenge myself and see what is my limit, but only to challenge that limit and see what I can make of it into something better. I create art to portray how I see the world, whether it is by doing landscapes, still lifes, surrealism, or expressing how I see it from the inside of myself. This influences even my color scheme for most of my works, which are normally bright and vivid.
